Tips for Visitors

Going to a new church sometimes feels a little uncomfortable when we don't know very much about it. Covenant Presbyterian Church members enjoy meeting new people and also understand that some people are more private at first meeting than others. These tips are just some guidance to help ease any uncertainty for our visitors.

Sunday Worship and Fellowship

Upon arriving you will be greeted and given a bulletin which will help with the order of service. It also includes our weekly church calendar, a sermon outline and a prayer to help focus our hearts and minds as we prepare for worship together.

After the service you’re invited to join us for fellowship and refreshments in Esty Hall. That’s the building to your right of the sanctuary as you arrive. Tea, coffee and light snacks are available after every Sunday service. If you notice more than a little food being served, it’s just a church tradition being observed. Once a month we have a fellowship meal at church. In any case, please join us after worship service to enjoy our hospitality and get acquainted.

Friendship Register

There will be a small brown booklet in every pew row that we call a Friendship Register. Please let us know that you visited our church by signing it too. Personal information is kept strictly confidential. However, don't feel you must complete it. We want you to come and be blessed, and be a blessing to others.

Tithes and Offerings

Every Sunday morning our members have an opportunity to honor God and serve the Lord through tithes and offerings. This should always be done in a spirit of joy and gratitude for all He has done. No one is under any obligation to give and we would be glad for the worship service and teaching to be our church's gift to you.

Communion

Covenant celebrates Holy Communion the first Sunday of each month. We speak of this sacrament as The Lord’s Table to emphasize that it belongs to the Lord Jesus, not to our church. Jesus invites his followers to eat, drink and experience His gracious presence in a special way. He alone sets down the guidelines. If you've made a public profession of Christian faith, and are a member in good standing of an evangelical (gospel preaching) church, we happily invite you to partake of the bread and cup of the Lord's Table with us!

If you wish to know more of what we believe about Communion, or any other faith-based inquiry about Covenant, please see our Statement of Faith, or speak with one of the elders during your visit.

We serve both wine and grape juice during our Communion. Non-alcoholic juice is served in clear cups, while the wine is in tinted cups.

Family Room

We support families in worship at Covenant, including those with young children. We have a family room in the back of the sanctuary behind the sound booth. One of the ushers can point it out. There you will find a changing table and comfortable chair for nursing moms and family members who may wish to seek out some privacy and quiet. You and your children are certainly welcome in the pews! But we understand that a mom might need a private space where she can still be involved in worship.

Here's a heartfelt message to grandparents: countless testimonials come from people who thank Granny or Grandpa for leading them to Christ, by persistent prayer and appeals during their youth. At Covenant we embrace the legacy of salvation that we trust in for our grandchildren; the greatest legacy anyone can give. Here, you will find praying partners and folks who will be delighted by children that come with you to church. If you are struggling with a family concern there's someone here who can understands and will stand with you.

Dress

Worship is about hearing the power of God’s Word being preached in simple, direct and truthful words that you can relate to. Though some churchgoers may be on the dressier side of 'Arizona casual', please don't concern yourself over what to wear. Come ready to worship and hear God speak to your heart, wearing what’s comfortable for you.

Allergy Sensitivities

Some of our folks are very allergic to fragrances and have respiratory issues. Please help us to keep the use of perfumes and colognes to a minimum.
